Sydney’s Significant Land-marks
I was going
to write Bye bye Air Asia X, when it stopped its X flights to Paris, London,
Mumbai and Delhi. With that my visits to explore London and Paris also took a
back seat, as the budgets in other airlines are not as competitive as Air Asia.
Without much adieu, I flew to Sydney one of the much awaited destinations which
Air Asia and I had been waiting for quite some-time.
Sydney the
state capital of New South Wales situated on the south east cost of Tasman Sea.
Sydney was the first site of British Colony in Australia established in 1778.
In 2010 Sydney was ranked 7th in Asia and 28th globally
for economic innovation and ranked among the top ten most livable cities in the
World.
On 26 January 1788, six days after the First Fleet landed in
nearby Botany Bay, captain Arthur Phillip decided to establish the new British
penal colony here, at the Rocks in Sydney Cove. To contain a bubonic plague
Sydney's government demolished parts of the area and with the construction of
the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the 1920s another large section of
the Rocks was razed.
Many old buildings have now been restored and the area has
been turned in one of Sydney's most popular tourist attractions.
Sidney Hospital the 3 winged complex housing 200 patience
and the (north is Parliament house and south the Mint.)
The South Wales Art Gallery completed in 1899 by colonial
architect Walter Liberty Vernon. Having collections of Australian, European and
Asian art and holds forty exhibitions annually.
Another most famous point in Sydney the Opera House. The day
I visited the Opera House, the play ‘Waiting for Godot” written by Samuel
Beckett was showing.
Apart from the city Sydney has beautiful sites like Three
Sisters in the Blue mountains.
Nature lovers can soak in the beauty and gorgeous expanse of
the Blue Mountains. Say hello to the Kangaroos in the Kangaroo Park.
Take a cruise down the Olympic park at Homebush along the
Parrmatta river, under the Sydney Harbour bridge and back to circular quay.
