How Life of Pi, brought God on Trial!

It was winter in Delhi, when sun sets early and night comes quickly. The roads are generally deserted, which is an unusual sight in India particularly, where the romping population makes any kind of space scarce. Few shops that remain open after 9 Pm are generally the liquor shops and some small Kirana stores (general stores).

16th of December 2012; a young couple went to a movie, Anglee’s Life Of PI, what a movie, brilliant animation, CG, and a non- linear story telling.
The journey of Pi, the hero touched lots of people’s hearts and they might have got the new resolve, not to give up in life, no matter how hard are the adversities. But  then it was a movie, where the writer is taught to write with the hero, his problems and how he overcomes them and becomes a victor in the end of the movie.

But reel life is so different from real life. The two young people, after watching the movie, stand out in the cold, waiting for transport, the roads are deserted, but then the capital of India, is divided into two sets, light and darkness. In its days of greatness, when India was the richest nation on earth, was like a zoo. A clean, well kept orderly zoo. Everyone in his place everyone happy. Now every bracket of humans worked according to their occupation like cowherd tended cows, the sweet-maker made only sweets, the untouchable’s cleaned faeces, and the landlords were kind to the serfs. Women covered their heads with a veil and turned their eyes to the ground when talking to strange men.  Then freedom on 15th August 1947, the British left, the cage had been let open;  the animals had attacked and ripped each other apart and jungle law replaced zoo law.

In life of Pi, because the Tiger once again finds a new jungle after his emaciated boat journey, he leaves the hero and goes in peace. But in Indian jungle of humans, when they find a piece of meat, even if they are not hungry, they will feed on it, because it’s free. And this is what happened to those two young people. The girl, a 23 year old, was repeatedly violated against her will, the friend, a young man, was not a super hero like Iron man, and he was unable to save the girl from six predators. The girl succumbed to her injuries, and finally attained moksha. Now the six predators, they didn't need to advertise the quality of genetic garbage their chromosomes carry, it’s self evident from their behavior. But because we live in a civilized society, where some people may not see jungle law as it is, they had defined law and order. The trials of the brutes began and one of them died in the prison cell, the most notorious bloke, who happened to be 2 months short of being an adult as per the laws of India, got the least sentence. 3 years in juvenile detention. And the rest may get death penalty. But that will only be the beginning of another round of appeals and more trials, more appeals, and they will continue…..
Then how did God get on trial. Well the very first time he was on trial was when the girl was raped, then his trial continued when she died and now the final one is, does he actually exists? The family of the 23 year old may be repeatedly questioning this in their minds. As the events, laws and society continue without coming to any conclusion.
So this what the girls parents might think:

When the stars threw down their spears,
And watered heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee? William Blake's The Tyger.
