WILL MODI BE INDIA’S HANDY MANNY!
Kids mostly of 6-8 yrs old, all
know and love Handy Manny, because he single handed fixes their broken
tools and dolls. The Economic Times seeing the Indian verdict of change has
given Mr. Narendra Modi the nick name Mr.Fit It.
The big question how will Mr. Fix IT start
mending India?
If we take a glance at the
economic scenario of India we can draw parallels with two countries that had
faced a similar condition when their head of State had come to power.
Ronald Regan;USA in 1980 and Mahatir,
1981, when he was sworn in as the PM of Malaysia.
The problems were somewhat
which India is facing now:
1. Lac of economic growth
2. High inflation
3. Bureaucratic paralysis
So
how will Mr Hand Manny handle this?
Will
he have just like the Caltex ad- short term goals and long term goals?
The
good part of his short term goal is; the gestation period he has only 9 months
for this year’s budget plan. The new budget will anyways be in 2015. Thus he
has time to draw his growth chart likewise.
Modi’s
winning the elections has created a positive note in the cautious stock market;
the question is will he be able to hold on to this mood of festivity?
Festivity
encourages spending. The other note is
People particularly first time
Entrepreneurs are also looking up to Modi, who want to re-establish their faith
that India is once again open to hear new business ideas.
The third important aspect is Accountability
whether it’s the ministers or the government. The whole system needs to be digitally
track able. Here his agenda on good governance will be put to litmus test.
For example a file in Kanpur
gets waylaid and the poor pensioner waits but the file never appears till the
clerks to the Magistrate are being bribed. The corrupt system needs to be
handled straightforwardly. Applications status should be automated.
And finally putting India back
on the International forum, be it business, development, economy. India needs
to get back into the race of globalization. This in the past decade has slipped
from no 3 position to the bottom of the list.
What Mr.Modi has achieved as a
CM in his state will he be able to do the same as a PM in his Country?
India waits and watches the new
Handy Manny.
