Discovering Leh-Ladak

The rugged, massive, cold-desert like terrain of the Leh-Ladakh range, lies between the Indus and Shyok river valley, in the Jammu-kashmir state. The sheer appearance is like Vajra, protecting India naturally from the mighty border of Xinjang China & the friendly neighbor Pakistan.

Its immense-beauty leaves one breathless. No pun intended, you will be gasping for breath in that high, cold altitude. (Leh- altitude- 11,480 ft/3,500 meters)

Strategically the ever-covered snow-peaked Siachen glaciers , with an altitude of 20,000ft and subzero temperatures through-out the year, can be viewed while in Leh, which is just 233 kms away; the highest battlefield in the World.

Leh-Ladakh could be considered as an adventure tourism spot. It’s not every traveler’s dream destination.

Basic things which we commoners living in plains take for granted is actually a comfort in the altitudes of Leh-ladakh.

1.     Oxygen is less, acclimatization is a dire need.
2.     Curvaceous-Dusty-Mountainous roads are surely a no-no for people with back ailments and also for those who suffer from motion sickness.
3.     The hotels/camps (Nubra/Pangong) lack basic facilities. Hot water is a luxury, clean toilets and clean bed-linen a super comfort. Food is ok, if you have an adaptable palate.
4.     Service is remarkable, people are super friendly. With a broad smile and a polite greeting, they will say No, to your stupid demands of luxury and comfort.
After all you are in high-altitudes. Where only the mighty-strong live and sustain.

General tourists perspective, if you land-up in Leh without proper planning and through research, you’ll be sorry.

Leh is approachable by road from Manali & Srinagar. By air, you can take flights from Delhi.

Keep at-least 24hrs for acclimatization; symptoms of common mountain-sickness are normal.
If you aren’t having any then you are abnormal. Be rest-assured you’ll be hit later with it.

Things to do: Drink a-lot, not alcohol, but HOH.
Eat less; Do not be a stodge.
People who hate exercise will find Leh heavenly, as minimal walking will send you panting.
The long winding travel will surely entertain one with witty sign-boards displayed on the tracks.
Few other tourists will share their uproarious humor and complaints. Be complacent!

Having said these, it’s a great place to gather your own experience.
Do Visit & Discover Leh-ladak your own style.
