Happy Dusshera and शुभ विजयादशमी
2020, Durga Devi comes galloping on a Saturday and leaves striding on a buffalo after 9 days on a Sunday.
Transport plays a significant role in daily lives of Devas and
Devis to travel from one sphere to the other.
And the unique thing about transportation is that its the one function that repeats itself throughout the supply chain.
Hindu scriptures have a very interesting way of tagging the 7 days of a week to their respective transportation mode.
Individual transportation has become synonymous for freedom and liberty. Therefore Devas and Devis have individualized vehicles (vahans) for each day.
Something similar to Earth people riding on their individual vehicles with odd and even number plates.
This year Navratri started on 17th October, which was a Saturday, hence the vehicle or vahan was a horse.
The vahan- horse by character is a fast animal to move on and particularly as the year began with the Pandemic in full swing, even Durga Devi chose to come mounting a horse, if needed she can move fast to safe distances.
But the 9 days played out in full vigour and she retreats on a steady mount, that of a buffalo.
Buffalo vahan is because the Dashmi thiti falls on a Sunday.
Had it been a Monday, the vahan would have been a regal one that of an elephant.
Now various regions and reasons will get linked with vahan and their prosperous or not so prosperous footings.
That is why our learned priests always give Durga Devi a visarjan on human backs.
The idol with her sons and daughters including the lion and Mahisasur is immersed in the river.
The culture of visrajan or immersion is a human way to bring a closure to the 9 days of festival, pujo and rituals.
It signifies the complete cycle of birth-life-death and rebirth.
As the idol/s are made of clay, immersing them in water signifies the earth and clay gets dissolved to be reformed next year again for a new structure to be remolded, with a new beginning.
Always playing on hope, peace, and the next season…
