2012- A Wish for a Glittering Year!

Image
After a momentous vacation in Jabalpur, Panchmadi and Kolkata, I returned to KL to welcome the New Year. The year began with a golden shimmer as my friends decided to say “Hello to 2012” by enhancing the golden side in one’s self. Gold generally is associated with prosperity, brightness, optimism and happiness. As the year 2011, in history would be remembered as the most turbulent year, looking for a radical change in politics, society and in people’s lives across the globe. Starting from Japan’s monstrous tsunami which killed thousands of people and triggered the second largest nuclear accident in history, Egypt’s end of dictatorship, to addressing India’s shaky democracy and the infectious disease called Corruption, Europe and America’s dwindling economies. China’s atrocious bullishness. The silver lining of the year was the wedding of Kate and Prince William’s and the killing of the notorious terrorist Osama Bin Laden. On the personal front were some huge losses, the demise of a g...

Thirst or Trishna

Thirst or Trishna Flipping the pages of Webster dictionary, my eyes fell on the word “thirst”. Thirst or Trishna in hindi has an in-depth meaning, thus pondering on the word, here is an inception….. Most beauteous in the world is thirst Precious, indeed very precious The blazing heat of high summer Inducing thirst Sharp like the edge of a sword Prickles in the body The crimson deep desire Flushing the forehead The desire for shade of some distant tree The vision breeds fascinating dreams Of streams, waterfalls and cascades And awakens the thrill of descending undaunted Without the hope and the chain Into, deep, very deep wells Learning effortlessly To pour down like the monsoon. Those alone are the real wells Which are free yet Of the pulley and the bucket The waters that sustain Are the ones Whose single sip Even at the risk of losing life Feels dear like a kindred soul. Thirst is to plunge headlong Without learning to swim Without a barge and a pole Into the roaring whirlpools.

WEATHER & TERROR CATASTROPHY

I remember when I was a kid, during late 1980’s there were not a blast of many channels. There was only one “Doordarshan” (India’s National Channel) and after the main news bulletin there was segment called “Mausam Ki Jankari” (a weather report) and very superficially the reader use to touch points on weather forecast, and the segment use to end with the forth coming days weather of main metro cities. In today’s times the weather forecast has been upgraded and there is information even sometimes discussion on how the weather would react and affect people living in that particular area, if any unfavorable circumstances occur. Thanks to the advancement in technology and the immense hours of labor put by the Weather departments of respective countries. Apart from the weather report, a similar terror report needs to be the mandate of current news bulletin after the statements given by India’s current Home Minister, Mr.Chidambaram –who ever have “ perpetrated the attacks has worked in a ver...

A Woman’s Heart- Searches for some answers:

Family how rooted it is especially in the Indian context and yet there are so many wheels within wheels. The coiled umbilical cord never really begins or ends. With one sharp cut it is separated from the mother. This is how a life is nurtured, brought onto earth and then given an identity as per its sex, religion and caste. If the child happens to be a She, she is brought up under strict supervision, guidance and restriction; she becomes acquainted with the real duties of the girl at an early age. A woman’s life, they had told me, contained no choices. And so far in life, I had seen the truth of this. The women had no choices but to submit, to accept. And I had often wondered... have they been born without wills, or have their will atrophied through a lifetime of disuse? The mode and style of their development inculcates in them submissiveness, silence and passiveness which hold a strong hold on their psyche. Even modern educated women consciously drape themselves with this trait and f...
